S100 – All over the world all prices are increasing. But there is a small country in the Indian ocean where the prices are decrease. The country is Sri Lanka.
Sir Lanka got 2015 a new government. The government has decreased the price for the most important thinks people in Sri Lanka need. For rice, dall and petrol. The petrol costs where in 2014 about 180 LKR per liter, now 120 LKR. With the petrol costs the government has also decreased the Tuk Tuk taximeter price in Colombo. In Colombo the price for Tuk Tuks are regulated by the government.
New Tuk Tuk price 2015
The base price for the first kilometre is 50 LKR (also if you drive only 500 meter). Per kilometre over 1 kilometre every kilometre costs 30 LKR.
If you go 11 kilometres: 1 kilometre 50 LKR + 10 kilometre a 30 LKR = 350 LKR
If you are in Colombo you have to ask before you start the driver “ you are use the taximeter?”. If not you have to ask for the price before you start and you have to negotiate! But think about the prices from the government. The best way is, when the driver will not switch one the taximeter, get off the taxi and use a other taxi. Usually a Tuk Tuk taxi in Colombo must switch on the taximeter. If the driver deny you can also call the police 119. This is also possible if the driver ask for more money then the taximeter shows. Call the police 1912 or 119.
Especially on the place where are many tourist, there are also some taxi driver the always try to cheat tourists. Example are the big railway stations in Colombo.
If you go by tuk tuk taxi outside from Colombo, the driver can ask much higher prices. There are now rule from the government outside from Colombo. But the prices from Colombo also valid outside from Colombo for local people. But the tourist has to fight for a good price.
